Gender imbalance in Australian family businesses

Further evidence has emerged showing women are vastly under-represented when it comes to business management, with a study suggesting sons are six times likelier to succeed the boss of a family company in Australia as the business leader. The findings from accounting firm MGI Australasia and the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology show the gender imbalance in family businesses, which make up 70 per cent of all Australian companies. We are in a changing world but it seems we still have a long way to go in terms of diversity in family businesses not just because of "Smith and Sons" but also because of the reluctance to be proactive and welcome non family senior executives in general.
