FIB was launch in 2012 as a neutral ‘got to’ community for family and owner-managed businesses across the UK. Dani Saveker, having been 4th generation in her own family’s 106 year old business, believed that the lack of support and understanding for family businesses was something that needed addressing. FIB works around succession issues, governance, development, Family businesses account for 3 million of all UK private enterprises and employ almost 9.5 million people. Alan Cook becomes the West Midlands regional director, Peter Doggett will look after the South West and Adam Harris joins as the East Midlands regional director. The role of a FIB regional director will not only see them working closely with SME family businesses using the FIB framework but also with a range of exclusive partners to offer outstanding expertise – from accountancy services through to legal assistance as well as wealth planning and insurance. FIB’s chief executive, Dani Saveker said: “Focusing on support at a local level as well as regionally and nationally is key for many family and owner-managed businesses. We are hearing more and more that they feel overwhelmed and stuck, unsure of how to move forward and build a sustainable growth strategy in an incredibly fast changing world. Family businesses have the additional burden of family dynamics and many sound business decisions can become much more complex as a result of relationships and not wanting to upset family members. Our regional directors know their regions and the industries that sit within them as well as bringing their own experiences and contacts to help busy and hard working family businesses. They work closely with professional advisers to provide an inclusive and comprehensive network. We’ll them be looking to add regional directors to all other regions of the UK” FIB offers membership to family businesses as well as various other schemes and support. They have a growing network of exclusive partners and service providers within the community who can all demonstrate a deeper understanding of family business issues.
